Frontier Builds Demo Night: Experiments at the Edge of AI

Step Inside The Lab – Demo Night at The Allen Institute for AI
Event Overview
An evening of experiments and active research builds, shown by the people running them. Special guests from the Allen institute will be taking us behind the scenes to show SOTA builds that come straight out of research and into production.
No theory, no slide decks — just the outer limits of what today’s models and frameworks can handle. Builders and researchers will share systems that are raw, experimental, and right at the edge of capability.
If you’re exploring prompt-driven systems, custom inference paths, or runtime behavior that shouldn’t work (but somehow does), this is your night.
We’ll also be hosting at AI2’s incredible space right on the water! This one is not to be missed.

What this night is about
AI Tinkerers and the Allen Institute for AI are teaming up to surface the projects sitting right at the boundary between research and production.
If your build pushes new model behaviors, tests strange evaluation setups, rewires context, or explores what current frameworks just barely support — this room is for you.
We’re looking for:
- Experiments that reveal new patterns or limits in current models
- Innovative ways to fuse research-grade ideas into working prototypes
- Unusual infrastructure, runtime, or data design choices that unlock new capabilities
- Deep dives that make other builders say “wait — that actually works?”
What to Expect
- Code-first demos. 5 minutes. No decks. Show us the core loop, the decision points, and what broke along the way.
- Technical depth. Talk through your architecture, model choice, and reasoning. Show metrics, artifacts, or real data.
- Open Q&A. Every demo ends with a few minutes for questions from other builders and researchers in the room.
- Lakeside networking. Hang out after; discuss, debug, and trade experiments.
